Dmitry Medveden Russian Prime Minister, was on North Africa tour where he signed a string of energy, military and other deals with Morocco.
Moroccan Prime Minister Saadeddine El Othmani presided a signing ceremony of 11 bilateral agreements for Medveden when they met on Wednesday. The agreements cover cooperation in areas like customs, agriculture, the military and culture, energy efficiency and peaceful use of Nuclear energy.
Medveden and Moroccan prime minister also talked about the disputed Western sahara region that Morocco annexed in the mid-1970s.
A lunch was hosted in honour of Russian PM along with his large government delegation and Russian business executives by a Moroccan king Mohammed VI, he was on a tour to Algeria, where he discussed oil pricing and energy cooperation.
Medveden during a press conference said that the potential for cooperation is very huge and spoke of a promising project to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to help the needs of Moroccan economy.
Aleksandr Novak Russia’s energy minister, was on visit to Morocco in late September and said that LNG re-gasification terminal was being built while two countries held talks on gas deliveries by Russian groups Gazprom and Novatek
Morocco has few gas and oil reserves of it’s own and planning to open a “LNG” terminal on North African country’s Atlantic coast in 2019
